It was narrated from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib that Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) went to the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and asked him for a servant.
He said:
“Shall I not tell you of something that is better for you than that? When you go to sleep, glorify Allah (by saying Subhan Allah) thirty-three times, praise Allah (by saying Al-hamdu Lillah) thirty-three times, and magnify Him (by saying Allahu akbar) thirty-four times.” And I have never abandoned [that practice] since then. It was said: Not even on the night of Siffin? He said: Not even on the night of Siffin.
Narrated by al-Bukhari (5362) and Muslim (2727).
Good deeds done consistently are like a rope that strengthen our relationship with Allah. These are the most beloved deeds to Him, even if they don’t require a lot of effort.
Not even on the night of Siffin…
Even during times when it feels like the ground beneath us is quaking and the intensity of life crushes our bones, we should have that one good deed (or two, or three, or more) that we will never abandon, for the sake of the status that we wish to attain with Allah. We should invest our hopes, love and sincerity in them. We should care for them as we would our wealth and children. We should imagine them keeping us company in our graves, and we should picture them as treasure chests presented to us on the day of judgment.
Have a wird, be consistent, and do it with joy and sincerity.
But the everlasting good deeds are far better with your Lord in reward and in hope. (Quran, 18:46)
The good deed could also be something that we avoid for the sake of Allah swt. 💕 Avoiding something harmful consistently also counts on our scales because only He knows what’s in our hearts. Such a beautiful reminder, thank you.
