Bismillah Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Raheem.
O believers! Avoid many suspicions, ˹for˺ indeed, some suspicions are sinful. (Qur’an, 49:12)
Nobody wants to be wrong; for that reason, our fingers readily point at other people, and our hands readily throw stones, all in defense of ourselves.
It would be easier for a person to call an admonisher “judgemental” than to accept his wrongdoings and make taubah. It would be easier for a sinner to accuse another sinner of sinning differently than to humbly try to better himself.
“I know Non-Hijabis that are more pious than Hijabis”
“I know Hijabis that commit all sorts of atrocities”
These could very well be true, the question is: are you, as a Non-Hijabi, more pious than any Hijabi?
If you say yes, then that is a very dangerous claim to make since Allah SWT explicitly tells us in Suratul Najm to not consider ourselves to be pure, for He knows best who the pure ones are. Imaam al-Hassan RH described humility as considering every single believer to be better than yourself. A person who thinks he/she is better in piety than any believer is definitely not half as pious as he/she thinks they are.
If you say no, then why is the claim that some Non-Hijabis are more pious than Hijabis still being used by you as a justification for not doing what Allah has made obligatory upon you? Those pious Non-Hijabis will be judged differently from you, and Allah might forgive them, but you have no guarantee that He will forgive you.
The Prophet SAW said: taubah is regret.
Being defensive and finding ways to justify sins are not signs of regret.
Making arguments like this prevents the heart from opening up to commandments of Allah SWT, and creates ill feelings towards the allies of Allah.
If we cannot be from amongst the righteous ones in this dunya, then perhaps the respect and love that we have for them might, by His mercy, grant us their companionship in the hereafter.
When the devil tricks you into seeking the faults of a believer who seems outwardly upright, fight him by remembering your own shortcomings.
If we truly loved Allah, wouldn’t we be happy if we saw people obeying Him?
The believers are but one brotherhood (Quran, 49:10), may Allah give us the ability to act like it.
يا عسل ♥️
